How Verified Listings on Farms & Wineries Drive More Bookings
If you run a farm, winery, vineyard, orchard, or cidery in BC, your business probably already has a listing on Farms & Wineries — we've imported a public dataset covering more than 1,200 locations. Whether you've ever heard of us or not, your name is somewhere on the site. The difference between an unclaimed listing and a claimed-and-verified one shows up in the click-through data we can see: verified listings get roughly 3× the engagement of unclaimed ones. Here's why, and how to fix it on your end. What 'verified' actually means A verified listing on Farms & Wineries has three things an unclaimed one doesn't: • A 'Verified' badge that appears in search results and on the listing page • Real ownership — the business owner has confirmed identity and has edit access to the listing • A direct contact channel — booking, enquiry forms, and reviews route to the owner instead of disappearing None of this requires payment. Verification is a free administrative step. Why verified listings outperform Three compounding effects: 1. Trust. The badge is visible in search result cards. Visitors choosing between two similar options at a glance click the one with the badge. 2. Accuracy. An unclaimed listing has whatever information we could scrape — sometimes outdated hours, missing photos, wrong phone numbers. A claimed listing has the owner's current info. Visitors who land on an accurate listing convert into actual visits; visitors who land on a broken one bounce. 3. Search ranking. Our internal ranking gives a meaningful boost to verified listings with complete information (photos, hours, description, amenities). This is the same logic Google and Yelp use, and it's standard practice across local-business directories. The combination — better placement in results, better signal of trust, better information once clicked — is where the 3× number comes from. What to add after you verify Claiming is the floor, not the ceiling. The listings that drive real volume have all of the following: • 8–15 high-quality photos. Cover image plus interior, exterior, products, people. Phone photos are fine; the bar is 'looks real,' not 'professional shoot.' • Accurate hours, including seasonal variations. Most farms have summer hours and winter hours — list both. • A description in your own voice, not the auto-generated one. 100–200 words is enough. Mention what you actually do, who it's for, and what makes you different. • Amenities tags. Pet-friendly, wheelchair-accessible, kid-friendly, parking, picnic area. Visitors filter by these. • An events feed if you run regular events. Tastings, u-pick weekends, farm dinners — these get indexed and show up on /events. • Links to your Instagram and website. We don't hide them — every visitor who wants to follow you gets the option. How to claim The process is straightforward: 1. Find your business at /search and click the listing 2. Hit the 'Claim this listing' button at the top of the page 3. Verify ownership — you can do this three ways: business email matching your domain, a postcard to your business address, or a phone call to the number we have on file 4. Verification reviews take 24–48 hours 5. Once approved, you get access to the business dashboard at /dashboard/business If the listing has outdated information or you want help setting up, our support team will walk you through the first edit pass — book a session at /support. The paid tier Beyond free verification, there's a paid Premium tier that unlocks featured placement, unlimited photos, an events calendar, and direct booking. We don't push it on this page — verify first, see whether the traffic justifies it, then decide. Most operators verify and stay free for a season before upgrading. The one thing operators consistently underestimate Reviews. Every visitor who lands on your listing can leave one. Verified listings get reviewed more often (because they look real) and respond to reviews more often (because the owner gets a notification). A listing with 12 reviews and an owner who's replied to half of them looks dramatically more inviting than a listing with three reviews and no engagement. Reply to every review. It takes ninety seconds and it's the single highest-leverage thing you can do for your listing. If you've been meaning to claim and haven't, take ten minutes now. The directory keeps working whether you participate or not — but the traffic going to your competitors with verified listings could be going to you.
